Looks that play the part
Taller, newly sculpted hoods. Boldly reimagined grilles. Piercing new LED headlamps. From the first look, it’s clear that the 2019 Camaro was deliberately designed with performance in mind. As the legend pulls away, new heritage-inspired round taillamps create an unforgettable signature the competition won’t soon forget.

Similar Models
The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro is generally considered a pony car, although some versions are also classified as a muscle car. It entered production for the first time in 1966 for the 1967 model year and was developed through four generations before production ended in 2002. General Motors (GM) revived the Camaro nameplate in 2006 with a concept car that it developed into the fifth-generation Camaro, which entered production in 2009 for the 2010 model year. The sixth-generation Camaro was introduced for the 2016 model year, and the 2018 Camaro will be the last model year for this generation. The 2018 Camaro is available as a coupe or convertible.
Buy or lease your new 2018 Chevy Camaro today from Gunn Chevrolet. We are located in Selma, but we also serve surrounding cities in South Texas, including San Antonio, New Braunfels, Selma, Schertz and Seguin.
Camaro Platform
The sixth-generation Camaro is built on GM’s Alpha platform, which replaces the Zeta platform used for the fifth-generation. The Alpha platform was introduced for the 2013 model year is currently used by all of GM’s compact to mid-size vehicles with front engines. Defining characteristics of this platform include MacPherson struts for the front suspension, rather than the multi-link suspension used by the Zeta platform. The Alpha platform also uses a five-link independent rear suspension and makes extensive use of aluminum and high-strength steel, with an emphasis on reducing weight. GM reports that 70 percent of the sixth-generation Camaro’s architectural components are unique to that car.
What’s New for the 2018 Camaro
The sixth-generation of the Chevy Camaro is manufactured in the United States, having been assembled in Canada from 1993 to 2015. The most noticeable difference with the new Camaro is that it’s 2.3 inches shorter, 0.8 inches narrower and 1.1 inches shorter than the previous generation. The latest Camaro is also over 200 pounds lighter compared to a similarly equipped fifth-generation Camaro. The biggest change for 2018 is the availability of the high-performance ZL1 Camaro with the 1LE Performance Package. The Redline Edition of the Camaro is also available for the first time in 2018.
Safety
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) evaluates the crashworthiness of vehicles in the United States. It assigns the 2018 Camaro five out of five stars for safety, its highest rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also evaluates car safety in the U.S. by assigning a grade from poor to good in five categories. The IIHS assigns the 2018 Camaro a rating of good in four of the five categories.
Wide roof pillars make a car stronger during a rollover, but they also reduce the driver’s visibility. The 2018 Camaro has 157 degrees of forward visibility out of a possible 180 degrees, which is one of the highest in its class. The rear visibility is 77 degrees, which is supplemented by a backup camera as a standard feature. This camera has gridlines integrated into the camera’s view, which move with the steering wheel. Blind-spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert are also available as safety features for the 2018 Camaro.
2018 Camaro Powertrains
The 2018 is available with the following four gasoline engines:
• 2.0-liter LTG Ecotec turbocharged Inline-4 (I4)
• 3.6-liter LGX V6
• 6.2-liter LT1 V8
• 6.2-liter LT4 V8
All of these engines are available with 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmissions, except that the automatic transmission option for the LT4 engine is a 10-speed 10L90 transmission.
The 2.0-liter LTG I4 is the first four-cylinder engine for the Camaro since the third generation. It produces 275 horsepower (hp) at 5,600 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 295 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque at 3,000 rpm.
The 3.6-liter LGX V6 generates 335 hp at 6,800 rpm and 284 lb-ft of torque at 5,300 rpm. This is 12 hp more than the V6 for the fifth-generation Camaro and 35 hp more than the V6 for the sixth-generation Mustang.
The 6.2-liter LT1 V8 produces 455 hp at 6,000 rpm and 455 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm, which is 29 hp more than the standard V8 engine for the fifth-generation Camaro. This engine is also an engine option for the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette.
The 6.2 L LT4 V8 is a supercharged version of the LT1 that produces 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.
2018 Camaro Performance
The performance of the 2018 Camaro depends on the engine and various other features. For example, the 3.6-liter engine with manual transmission accelerates the Camaro from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 5.2 seconds, with a standing quarter mile time of 13.8 seconds. The 6.2-liter engine with normal aspiration and manual transmission takes the Camaro from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and covers a standing quarter mile in 12.3 seconds. The 0 to 60 mph time for the 6.2-liter supercharged engine with manual transmission is 3.5 seconds, with a standing quarter mile time of 11.4 seconds.
Camaro Fuel Economy
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates for fuel economy on the 2018 Camaro are highly dependent on the engine. These EPA estimates are for a coupe with automatic transmission.
The 2.0-liter engine gets 22 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city, 31 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg combined. The fuel economy of the 3.6-liter engine is 19 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg combined. The 6.2-liter engine with normal aspiration gets 16 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg combined. The supercharged version of this engine gets 14 mpg city, 20 mpg highway and 16 mpg combined.

2018 Camaro Exterior
The design of the sixth-generation Camaro draws heavily from the 1969 model, which was the last year of the first-generation Camaro. Its exterior dimensions are a width of 74.7 inches, a length of 188.3 and a height of 53.1 inches. Compared to other cars in its class, the Camaro’s length and width are about average, but the height is less than any other pony car.
The 1LS, 1LT and 2LT trims have minor exterior differences that distinguish them from 1SS and 2SS trims. Some of these differences are related to the difference in engine size, while others are purely cosmetic. Camaros with four and six-cylinder engines have a wider, lower air intake in comparison with V8 models, which have nostril-like hood vents and much larger openings on the lower grille. Models with four and six-cylinder engines also have vertical fog lights, whereas the fog lights on V8 models are horizontal. All versions of the Camaro can be customized with a variety of appearance packages, wheels and decals.
The only exterior change for the 2018 Camaro is the discontinuation of Krypton Green, which was introduced for the 2017 model year. The following exterior colors are available for the 2018 models at no extra charge:
• Black
• Mosaic Black Metallic
• Nightfall Gray Metallic
• Red Hot
• Silver Ice Metallic
• Summit White
• Mosaic Black Metallic
• Nightfall Gray Metallic
• Red Hot
• Silver Ice Metallic
• Summit White
The 2018 Camaro is also available in three premium colors for an additional charge, including Bright Yellow, Garnet Red Tintcoat and Hyper Blue Metallic.
The active functions on the remote control for the 2018 Camaro include door lock/unlock for both doors, trunk open and panic alarm. The passive functions include door lock/unlock for both door, and push to start.
2018 Camaro Interior
Significant improvements have been made to the interior of the 2018 Camaro, primarily with the use of better materials to give it a more modern look. The most obvious improvements include more comfortable front seats and a straightforward control layout.
The front seats are surprisingly spacious with ample leg and headroom, allowing drivers taller than six feet to enter and exit the car comfortably. The coupe has 38.5 inches of head room and 43.9 inches of leg room, which compares favorably with other cars in its class. Head room in the rear seat is 33.5 inches with 29.9 inches of leg room. A car’s seating height is the distance from the road to the driver’s hip, which generally low in performance cars. The seating height of the 2018 Camaro is 17.3 inches, which is the lowest of any car in its class.
The Recaro front bucket seats cradle front passengers snugly without being overly restrictive, which is especially important during hard cornering. The dashboard design is clean, with analog and digital gauges that are easy to read. The gauge cluster can also be configured with the eight-inch display. A heads-up display is available as an option, which isn't offered in other pony cars. The optional customizable interior lighting adds a distinctive appearance for the 2018 Camaro at night.
A car’s interior noise level varies according to the size of the engine and speed. For example, a 2018 Camaro with a normally aspirated 6.2-liter engine produces 74 decibels (dB) when traveling 70 mph.
